As promised, here are the pictures of our floor renovation project. A while ago, we pulled back our bedroom carpet to find the lovely (if very dirty) original floorboards that lay underneath. Now, thanks to the amazing kindness of my Grandmother and Aunt, we have been able to afford to have them spruced up to their former glory. I have relished tearing up the carpet with a Stanley knife to find the blackened, dusty boards and coming home from work to sneak a peak round the door at their beautifully smooth, newly-sanded glow. The Ginge found it very funny that I so adamantly wanted to pick the colour of the varnish (a very important business, I think) and that I sat on the floor for so long agonising over the decision between those on offer. We had to wait two days before we could go into the room to see the fully finished floor, but it was so beautiful when we finally saw it that I did a hoppy, skippy dance around the room in celebration. Now we just need to paint the skirting boards, before we can move in! Can't wait to show you more photos of our progress. How wonderful to make a home from scratch!
Pulling up the carpet...
...the boards at the start...
...clean, smooth and ready to be sealed...
...the finished, most deliciously wonderful floor!
Oh, they look beautiful! We did the same thing a few years ago and it's great! Also, if you're clumsy like me so much easier to mop up spills!
ReplyDeleteLovely! Whoever thought it a good idea to cover up those floorboards with carpet was mad... My (rented) flat is covered in disgusting blue carpet and it has put me off for life!
